Optus has formally launched its femtocell offering, first introduced as a commercial pilot with limited availability in April, under the name Optus 3G Home Zone.

Femtocells, low-power wireless access points, have tremendous potential to change the way people use their mobile phones as the technology becomes increasingly competitive. This is according to Alejandro Piñero, director of the Femtocells World Summit, which will bring together more than 350 industry experts in London from 21-23 June, at what is the only global event of its kind.

LTE should come from femtocells, Forum says

The Femto Forum is pushing for femtocells - small cellular base-stations located in a user's home and backhauled over the user's fixed broadband connection - to play a key roll in the deliver of LTE, and WiMAX services.
